The Daily Nugget- God The Protector

Hi All

Our text today looks at Psalm 121 and specifically verses 1-3.Just to give a little bit of background, this psalm is one of the "Songs of Ascent" (Psalms 120-134), which were likely sung by pilgrims travelling to Jerusalem for religious festivals. The psalm's message focuses on God's protection and guidance during a journey, reassuring the traveller that God is watching over them. The good news for believers is that in the same way God was watching over the travellers He also watches over us everyday wherever we are and whatever we are doing our God is omnipresent “Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far away? Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord."(Jer 23:23-24). How wonderful to know that no matter what God has our backs Thank You Lord !

Be Blessed and Encouraged

God The Protector

1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. (Psalm 121:1-3)

These opening verses of the psalm focus on the Lord’s ability to protect us in treacherous times. Whether trouble originates with others, external circumstances, or our own sin, we can find ourselves in danger and afraid. Thankfully, we have a loving God who leads us to safety.

Verses 1 and 2 say “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth”. In a historical  context when this psalm was  written, robbers used to wait in the mountains, for travellers to become their unsuspecting victims, this is something David learned. While working as a shepherd he would go into dangerous areas, where not only thieves but also wild animals posed a threat. Our lives can be like mountainous territory. Thankfully, the Lord is our helper; He is the only one able to completely protect us.

Verse 3 tells us“He will not allow your foot to slip”, if we take this verse in the context of our sinful nature God has provided everything we need in order to avoid sin, because The Holy Spirit directs and empowers us and the Word lights our path so we don’t fall. Our God ALWAYS has our backs Amen !
