When the New Testament was written it was in Greek because that was the common language used across the Roman Empire  and there are four different Greek words translated as love one of which is “agape”.Agape Love which translates to divine love represents God's special kind of love.It’s the love God has for us and the kind of love He gives us for Himself and others.Agape love is unconditional,sacrificial and selfless,the kind of love God shows to us as described in scripture “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant”(1 Corinthians 13:4)and the kind of love we should show for each other.

God Is Love

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

(John 3:16).

The above verse is probably the most famous verse in the Bible and is the ultimate example of the love God has for us,a love which is Unconditional & Selfless.It's not based on attraction,merit,or emotion but is given freely to us even though we don't deserve it.As Christians we are called to show this kind of love to others in our lives.Jesus emphasizes this point when He says,"A new command I give you, Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another”(John 13:34) and In Luke 10:25-37 He also uses the parable of the Good Samaritan to show us this love being displayed.

The greatest command within Scripture is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, and soul (Matthew 22:37) and we are also told 'You shall love Your neighbour as yourself(Matthew 22:39). In our daily lives let the love of God shine from us onto others because our God is LOVE Amen.
