The Daily Nugget- Continual Growth

Hi All

Today in our text we learn why it matters that we must grow in our faith as we continue on our walk with The Lord, but how do we grow ? We can start by reading the scriptures and “digging” to gain greater understanding which in turn leads us into a,lifestyle where we become more Christlike in our  actions and deeds and so maturing in our faith as opposed to remaining immature where our growth remains stationary, which scripture warns us against  “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil ".(Hebrews 5:12-14).Let’s keep nourished by the word and practice what it tells us because Healthy believers move forward to maturity.

Be Blessed and Encouraged

Continual Growth

14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,   15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you,   16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.   17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,   18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

(2 Peter 3:14-18)

When a baby is born, it’s a cause for celebration but also anticipation. Before discharging the family, the doctor checks that everything is as it should be. When the parents bring the child home they keep a careful eye to ensure the baby is eating enough, sleeping enough and various other stages of growth are reached. Over months and years, parents continue to monitor the child's development, both mentally and physically. If there appears to be a lack of growth in any area chances are that something is wrong.

The same is true of our life in Christ. When we first receive Jesus as Lord, we’re spiritual infants, beginning a wonderful new life in Him. But from then on, it’s important to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior” (2 Pet. 3:18). Otherwise, we can easily be misled by wrong teaching, doubt, and temptation.

Growing in our relationship with Jesus requires that we fill our life with practices that promote good spiritual health. These include regular worship, prayer, Bible study, fellowship with other believers, and serving with our gifts and talents. Such disciplines nourish us, providing the “vitamins” and “exercise” needed for spiritual growth. When we do  live our lives in a way that is pleasing to God,we will become less worldly and more Christlike.
