The Daily Nugget- All For God's Glory
Hi All
We read in our text today about the famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach, who was given a great talent by God which enabled him to compose some wonderful music that still brings joy to so many people today. As we read Bach always gave all the glory for his abilities to God because he knew that without God he could do nothing(John 15:5).
Just like Bach God has given everyone of us all different talents and abilities(Romans 12:6-8)and like Bach we should always use them to give God the glory. Our talents are a gift from God to us,but how we use them is our gift back to God.
Be Blessed and Encouraged
All For God's Glory
31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offence either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.
(1 Corinthians 10:31-33)
Johann Sebastian Bach,(1685–1750) is one of the greatest and most prolific music composers in all of history. But have you ever seen his handwritten ‘S.D.G’ at the end of each manuscript? S D G is short for the latin phrase or “Soli Deo Gloria” which means “all for the glory of God”
To give a little bit of background Bach did not have an easy life,he was orphaned before he was ten, he would serve a month in prison, and lose his first wife, leaving him with many children. Despite all his troubles Bach depended on God for help and aimed to glorify Him through his music, which he created both for entertainment at court and for church worship.
Bach didn’t compose music primarily for himself, his employer or his audience, but to reflect God’s beauty, truth and love. Similarly, in “whatever” we do, we can bring God honour, credit and praise. Our words and deeds, integrity and behaviour, at work and at rest, can glorify God and inspire others towards Him.
Whether or not we are musical, “whatever” we do, we too should “do it all for the glory of God”(1 Corinthians 10:31).
