The Daily Nugget- Growing With God

Hi All

Sometimes there can be times in our Christian walk where we feel we are standing still and we don't seem to be growing in our faith, that is when we need to “feed” ourselves with the word of God. As the prophet Jeremiah put it "Your words were found and I ate them, And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart”(Jeremiah 15:16).There is no better food for spiritual growth than the manna of God's word, but for us to grow we need to have a spiritual hunger within in us, a desire to grow our relationship with Jesus and when we have this we will  grow in our walk with God.Just as we need to feed our bodies with food so we also need to feed ourselves with a healthy intake of scripture, because the bible is like food for our souls. It is milk (1 Peter 2:2), solid food (Hebrews 5:11-14), bread (Matthew 4:4), and honey (Psalm 19:9-10)”. When we plant the seed of scripture within us it helps us move onto spiritual maturity.

Be Blessed and Encouraged

Growing With God

By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

(2 Peter 1:4)

In the winter a farmer gathers his seed. He plans how many seeds are needed in order to reap a harvest. He prepares the ground to receive the seed. But nothing happens until the farmer takes the step of burying the seed in the soil. Having seed is not enough. There must be a commitment to plant the seed and nurture its growth until it brings forth fruit.

We read in the Bible Jesus comparing the Word of God to a seed (Luke 8:11), followed later by the apostle Peter (1 Peter 1:23). Peter also talked about the “great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4) contained in the Word that allow us to become partakers of the divine nature. But like the farmer and his seed, we grow spiritually only when we plant the Word of God deeply in the soil of the heart (Matthew 13:1-23).

Having the seed of the Word is not enough. We must plant it before we will see ourselves grow.Growing in our relationship with Jesus requires that we fill our life with practices that promote good spiritual health. These include regular worship, prayer, Bible study, fellowship with other believers, and serving with our gifts and talents. Such disciplines nourish us, they’re like vitamins and exercise for the soul.

"There is more to Christian growth than knowing what the Bible says; nobody is ever nourished by memorising menus”.
