The Daily Nugget
Hi All
In the gospel of John Jesus is quoted as saying “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”(John 8:12). Our message today, taken from a devotional by Dr Dqvid Jeremiah encourages us to be the light and let His light shine from us. No matter how dark it gets it cannot prevent light from shining, even a Tee Light candle will pierce through the darkness of an unlit room.In the beginning, Genesis tells us, “darkness was on the face of the deep” (1:2). That physical darkness was dispelled by the creation of the heavenly lights (Genesis 1:14-18).The apostle John builds on that theme to talk about the dispelling of spiritual darkness when Jesus came into the world. Jesus said He was the Light of the world, then told us we are as well (Matthew 5:14-16).Our light matters in a dark world in which we live shining alone and together with others. The darkness can never overcome the light of Christ in you.We must never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.
Be Blessed and Encouraged.
Jesus is The Light of The World
As for the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. (Revelation 1:20)
14"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
(Matthew 5:14-16)
The first few verses of the Gospel of John mirror the beginning of Genesis 1 the entrance of light into a dark world (Genesis 1:3; John 1:4-5). Jesus identified Himself as the Light of the World (John 8:12) but only while He was in the world (John 9:5). Preparing His followers, Jesus said that they would be the light of the world in His absence (Matthew 5:14-16).This was reaffirmed in the vision John saw on the isle of Patmos. Part of that vision was Christ standing in the midst of seven lampstands—sources of light (Revelation 1:12-13). In His words to John, Christ identified the lampstands as seven churches in Asia Minor, representing all the churches that were and that were to come. The implication of picturing the Church as a lampstand is obvious. The Church is to be the light of the world until Christ returns.
As Christians in the world today we need to stand out so let’s reflect God’s light to all those we come across whether it be a smile and a kind word to a stranger,or lending a helping hand or even just listening to someone who has nobody to talk to by doing so we are showing the love of Jesus and being His light in a dark world.
