Hi All
For Christians, the phrase "Jesus the Good Shepherd" describes Jesus as a loving leader who protects, guides, and sacrifices his life for his followers, whom he calls his flock. This powerful metaphor, originating in the Gospel of John is in a similar vein to old testament passages like Ezekiel 34( which speaks of God's faithfulness to His covenant with His people) and Psalm 23(which is a personal testament of David of The Lord's faithfulness throughout his life). A shepherd protects, guides and does whatever it takes to protect his “flock”, and we can be comforted knowing that “Our Shepherd”(Jesus) does the same for His “Flock”(all believers).
Be Blessed and Encouraged
Our Shepherd
"I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
(John 10:11)
Without a shepherd sheep cannot find a way to clean water or nourishing pastures. The shepherd keeps a constant vigil for wild animals and other threats to his flock's safety. A good shepherd also goes after the single sheep that strays from the fold. Furthermore, without a shepherd sheep are virtually helpless. They cannot defend themselves, make their way through treacherous mountain passes, or run fast enough to avoid a predator.Just as sheep need a shepherd,we human beings need our good shepherd. One more thing, have you ever noticed that a shepherd is always out in front of the sheep, never behind them? Shepherds lead sheep , they do not drive sheep the way cattle ranchers drive their cattle. Our Lord will never force us against our will, but He will lead us.Jesus gave His life for us so we can faithfully trust Him to lead us through life. John 10:3-4 tells us 3 “To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice”. Just like the sheep may we get to know Jesus' voice and be ready to follow Him when He calls us.
