The Daily Nugget- Wonderful Shepherd
Hi All
One of the most reassuring verses in the bible is the first verse in Psalm 23 which says “ The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want” and Jesus also refers to Himself as “The Good Shepherd”(John 10:11). Today we look a little deeper into just what it means to be a”shepherd”.As we read a shepherd protects, guides and does whatever it takes to protect his “flock”.We can be so comforted with the knowledge that Jesus does the same for His “flock”. “Our Shepherd” gave his life so all believers can be assured of His guidance and protection and look forward to a life spent in eternity with Him(John3:16)
Be Blessed and Encouraged
Wonderful Shepherd
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
(Psalm 23:1)
"I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
(John 10:11)
In biblical times being a shepherd was not easy,in fact quite the opposite, all day, every day, a shepherd’s task is to watch over the helpless flock. The shepherd has to be constantly on guard to protect his sheep from predators that would seek to harm them. The sheep also rely on the shepherd to guide them safely over treacherous areas,to clean water and fresh pastures and to go after any that stray from the flock. Without a shepherd sheep are totally helpless and unable to fend for themselves.
Everything a shepherd does for his sheep,Our Lord does for us everyday because He is our shepherd and made us a promise when He said ”I will never leave you nor forsake you”(Hebrews 13:5).We can stand on that promise and be sure our preeminent Lord is with us right now.He IS our Refuge,Strength,Help and Protector who does not want us to perish and will never let anyone grasp us from His hands(John 10:28). Thank You Lord !
