The Daily Nugget- The Price Is Paid

As Christians we are assured of the free gift of salvation,but our salvation came at a great cost to God who sent His son to die for us. By doing so God demonstrated His love for us and He offered us a way to be reconciled with Him through our faith in Jesus, who when He died paid the penalty for all of our sins. What Jesus went through was so bad He cried out to The Father “my God my God why have you forsaken me”(Matthew 27:46) which would suggest that in that moment He felt totally abandoned by His Father as He bore the divine wrath of God for all our sins.As we read through our text today let's think about the magnitude of the sacrifice made on our behalf and thank God for our salvation as no love could ever compare to the love The Father has for us and nothing can separate us from that love( Romans 8:38-39) . Praise God!

The Price Is Paid

You were bought with a price (you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own). So then, honour and glorify God with your body.

Crucifixion was among the most horrific forms of death known in the ancient world. It was practised by the Egyptians and others long before the Romans popularised it. So when Jesus spoke of the cross in His teachings on discipleship, the Twelve would have understood the reference. But they wouldn’t have understood the high “Cost” involved until they witnessed Jesus taking up His own cross on Golgotha.

For followers of Jesus salvation refers to being saved from judgement of sin(Romans 8:1-2). God's righteous wrath,and the consequent eternal separation is what we deserve because we are sinners(Romans 5:2).However,thanks to God and His mercy we were delivered and given a free pardon and the promise of eternal life(Ephesians 2:4-5), but this did not come without a “Cost”.

Freedom is never free,and in God's economy,freedom from sin is always bought with blood(Ephesians 1:7). Starting in Genesis and woven throughout scripture,a scarlet thread indicates the blood atonement God requires for forgiveness of sin.This condition for salvation is ultimately fulfilled in the final sacrifice for sin, Jesus died on a cross outside the gates of Jerusalem.Jesus not only spoke of his love for us,"but God demonstrates His own love toward us ,in that while we were still sinners,Christ died for us"(Romans 5:8).Our salvation came at a great “Cost” in that God "gave his only begotten son"(John 3:16) so that we may be saved.”Father may we never forget or take lightly the high “price” that was paid for our salvation” in Jesus.
