The Daily Nugget- Plant And Grow

Hi All

Today we have a nice little message about “Planting and Growing”. In the Parable of the sower(Luke 8:4-15) Jesus tells us the word of God is like a seed in verse 11 He says ”now the seed is the word of God” and like any other seed it will, only grow when planted within us and nurtured so it may take root,thus allowing for us to grow spiritually and really get to know “The Lord” which is so different from knowing about Him. In scripture we are told to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”.(2 Peter 3:18).

“Now The Seed is The Word of God”

(Luke 8:11)

for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

In the winter a farmer gathers his seed. He plans how many seeds are needed in order to reap a harvest. He prepares the ground to receive the seed. But nothing happens until the farmer takes the step of burying the seed in the soil . Jesus was the first to compare the Word of God to a seed (Luke 8:11), followed later by the apostle Peter (1 Peter 1:23). Peter also talked about the “great and precious promises”contained in the Word that allow us to become “partakers of the divine nature”(2 Peter 1:4).But like the farmer and his seed, we grow spiritually only when we plant the Word of God deeply in the soil of the heart (Matthew 13:1-23).

Having the seed of the Word is not enough, we must also be committed to planting it and nurturing it,which then enables us to grow.Spiritual growth requires absorbing the truth of the word and applying it to our daily lives. Simply memorizing or knowing what the Bible says is only reading the menu.We are only truly nourished when we actively feed on the word of Christ and live out His teachings in our everyday lives.
