The Daily Nugget- Our Joybringer

Hi All

In John chapters 14-16 we read about Jesus speaking to His disciples the night before He went to the cross and He was preparing the disciples for the events which were to follow:- His  crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and return. He told them that although they would mourn their “grief [would] turn to joy” (16:20). In these chapters Jesus was teaching of the promise of the Holy Spirit, which He would send after He had gone, a promise which was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost ten days after Jesus ascension to heaven and the Spirit came to dwell within all those who believed, bringing joy far beyond anything we could experience without The Lord in our lives.

Our Joybringer

16 "A little while, and you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me."17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, "What is this thing He is telling us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?" 18 So they were saying, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is talking about." 19 Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, "Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me'?20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy.21 Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world.22 Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. Prayer Promises   23 On that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.24 Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.

(John 16:16-24)

Jesus brings joy by offering salvation, peace and eternal hope, turning sorrow into lasting gladness that goes beyond circumstances, this joy comes from the knowledge that we are loved by God and is described as“unexplainable and filled with glory"(1 Peter 1:8). It is a gift that provides strength and comfort in times of hardship. This kind of joy is more than a good feeling based on desirable things happening to us. It grows out of doing the will of our Father in heaven. Jesus also said, “Seek first[God’s] kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

The joy from Jesus is not to be confused with “happiness” which can disappear the first time trouble comes our way.The joy that comes from Jesus is unique and does not depend on happy circumstances. The promise of eternal life and a future without suffering offers joy despite earthly trials and provides us with peace, comfort and the assurance that we are not alone and comes with a promise from Jesus that “No one will take your joy away”(John 16:22).
