The Daily Nugget- Jesus Our Shepherd

In the book of Ephesians the Apostle Paul describes the spiritual condition of Gentile believers before they came to faith in Jesus Christ, highlighting their separation from God and their lack of hope(Ephesians 2:12).Without The Lord in our lives we would all be helpless because in any situation human effort and logic will always fall short. Our true hope only comes through our salvation and our willingness to totally depend on God.Jesus Himself said “apart from me you can do nothing”(John 15:5) meaning that He is our only route to spiritual fulfilment. We also read in scripture that “our help comes from the creator”(Psalm 121:1-2)

and that God is our "very present help in trouble".(Psalm 46:1).What a wonderful reassurance to have knowing The Lord has our backs.

Jesus Our Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

(John 10:11)

Almost every animal has some type of defence mechanism. Rabbits can run,cats can scratch,dogs can bite,bees can sting,goats can butt etc etc.The one exception are sheep who are defenceless and unprepared because they can't fend off or outrun those predators who seek them for prey,in other words without their shepherd they are virtually helpless.

Just like sheep,without our “shepherd” we are also hopeless and open to attacks from our enemy, that is why in Ephesians 6:11 the apostle Paul tells us to “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil”.

We all need a good shepherd to protect us and guide us and for believers that shepherd is The Lord Jesus Christ.

“Father without you we are helpless and can do nothing in our own strength. Thank you Lord that you protect us and give us the strength we need to handle anything that comes our way” Amen !
