The Daily Nugget- Go Fishing
Hi All
In Matthew 4(18-24) we read about Jesus calling His first disciples Simon,Peter and Andrew who were fishermen and He tells them “follow me and I will make you fishers of men”(Matthew 4:19) but what does Jesus actually mean ? Jesus was telling them that just as fishermen spread their nets to catch fish, when they follow Jesus they are called to spread His message and invite other people to follow Him. This instruction still applies to all believers today, who are also called to spread the good news of the Gospel among those we meet. The greatest thing we can do as Christians is to raise up the name of Jesus and when we do He will draw the people.(John 12:32). Sharing the message of Jesus also means being bold and letting those around us see how it has transformed us by showing them the love Jesus shows us.Today our message is drawn from a devotional by David Jeremiah and contains a great testimony of a Pastor who was led to share the gospel and the impact that it had on someone he had known for years.
Be Blessed and Encouraged
Go Fishing
‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.' (Mark 16:14)
And He *said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19)
One day a pastor told the manager of a big department store, 'I've talked about carpets and bedding and appliances with you many times, but I've never talked about my business. Will you give me a few minutes?'
After being led to a private office, the pastor took out his New Testament and urged the manager to become a Christian. Finally, tears began to roll down the man's cheeks and he said, 'I'm seventy years old. I was born in this city, and more than a hundred ministers and five hundred officers of various churches have known me in a business capacity. But you're the only man who has ever talked to me about my soul.' That day he knelt down and gave his life to Christ.
In the great commission Jesus instructed His followers to “make disciples”(Matthew 28:18-20),but sometimes as believers we can all be guilty of having the wrong approach. We think if we can just bring visitors to church they'll get saved, and by the grace of God that does happen. However when those in the New Testament church met together to celebrate, usually they'd already been won to Christ by someone before they got there!
When sharing the Gospel we don't have to be theologically articulate,we just have to be in love with Jesus and display the love of Jesus to others. We must never worry about drawing people to Jesus if we simply introduce Him then He will draw them Praise God !
