The Daily Nugget- Faith Over Fear

Hi All

We all encounter circumstances in our life which cause us to experience fear. These could be mental, physical, or spiritual struggles. The characters in the Bible were no exception. They, too, experienced fear. Think of the disciples rowing on the Sea of Galilee or David battling against Goliath. Fear and the courage to conquer it are mentioned often in God’s Word. But it is important to remember the role of faith in conquering fear. The word faith can be broken down using the following abbreviation :-F- Forwarding ,A - All, I - Issues, T - To, H - Heaven, this basically tells us to give everything to God and by doing so we are starting to live out our faith and allowing it to overcome our fears, this quote sums it up nicely “The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety”.

Be Blessed and Encouraged

Faith Over Fear

40 He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?" 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

(Mark 4:40-41)

So , what is the opposite of faith? The easy answer is “unbelief.” If we have faith, we believe; if we don’t have faith, we don’t believe, but it's not quite that simple,we can read in Mark 4 the account of when the disciples were in the boat with Jesus crossing the sea of Galilee and they started showing fear, Jesus calling them to account He suggested that fear not unbelief was the opposite of faith saying to them “Why are you so fearful”? How is it that you have no faith?”

So why is fear the opposite of faith? In the setting where Jesus chastised His disciples, the issue at hand was the future. They were in the middle of a storm on the Sea of Galilee, and the disciples didn’t think they would make it to shore. This teaches us that when we approach the future, we can approach it one of two ways: with faith or with fear. If you are in the midst of a storm, choose to have faith in Christ to see you through, because if the Lord is with us why would we need to fear anything.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

(Psalm 27:1)
