The Daily Nugget
Hi All
The phrase "Jesus our friend" refers to our Christian belief that Jesus is a close, personal companion to all believers who is always there, for us whilst He remains our supreme King. This friendship is characterized by his complete knowledge of us and his unwavering love, which is why he is considered the truest and most loyal friend we could have. We can deepen this friendship through prayer, as it is a relationship of intimate conversation rather than mere duty. In Jesus we have a friend who is also a King, a King who has elevated us from being a servant to being a friend, which is a wonderful invitation to a close relationship, as the famous old Fanny Crosbie Hymn tells us “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear”!
Be Blessed and Encouraged
Our Best Friend
I cry aloud with my voice to the LORD; I make supplication with my voice to the LORD.
(Psalm 142:1)
14 You are My friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
(John 15:14-15)
It is when we are in trouble that we realise who our true friends are . A true friend can be defined as someone who walks toward you when others walk away and those of us who have someone who we can call a “true friend” are so blessed. For some of us that true friend may be a sibling, for others it could be someone who we are not related to,which may be what Proverbs 18:24 refers to as “a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” A “true friend” is a person to whom we share all our issues and worries with, someone we can tell anything to and be safe in the knowledge we will not be judged by them. For David the psalmist that friend was God Himself. Oppressed by those who opposed him, he cried out to the Lord. That is, he used his voice to tell God what he was experiencing and how he was feeling (Psalm 142). He didn’t hold back; he trusted his covenant friendship with God was strong enough to withstand his flood of words and emotions. In John 15, Jesus introduced a new relationship with His disciples: He called them His friends (John 15:14-15). Their relationship changed from Master/servant to Friend/friend. And so it is with us. When we feel lonely or discouraged all we need to do is tell Jesus because He invites us to come to Him as friends. In Jesus we have the best friend anyone could have so when we are feeling lonely or discouraged all we have to do is go to Him.
28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."(Matthew 11:28-39)
