The Daily Nugget
Hi All
In Christian theology, the “nearness of God” refers to His intimate, personal presence with believers and His desire for a deep relationship with His creation. This closeness is made possible by Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice removed the barrier of sin and who offers believers direct access to God the Father, and as believers we can draw close to God and experience His closeness through practices like prayer, scripture study, repentance, and obedience, and being close to God gives us comfort, guidance, and strength in times of trouble. In the book of James(Chapter 4:8) we are told “draw near to God and He will draw near to you”. There is no better feeling for a Christian than the sense of God's presence.
Be Blessed And Encouraged
God is Always Near
But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
(2 Thessalonians 3:39)
25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. 27 For, behold, those who are far from You will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You. 28 But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.
(Psalm 73:25-28, NASB)
Meister Eckhart was a medieval German preacher whose principal subject was the presence of God. He said: “I am as sure as I live that nothing is so near to me as God. God is nearer to me than I am to myself; my existence depends on the nearness and the presence of God.”How do we cultivate a sense of God’s presence? It’s important to begin and end the day with the Lord, making time for silence, Bible reading, and prayer. Between getting up and retiring, we should learn to pray quietly about whatever comes. “Lord, bless this phone call.” “Lord, help me rest on this flight.” “Father, encourage that sad face I just passed.”If the evil in the world troubles you, imagine how it hurts the Lord to see it too. But we’re not alone. We have a faithful Defender, Friend, and Confidant who walks with us through life. He will guard us from the evil one.We have the presence of a faithful God surrounding us day and night, what a lovely thought for us to bless our lives. To quote Meister Eckhart "We should grasp God in all things and should train ourselves to keep God always present in our mind".
