The Daily Nugget- Stay Connected
Hi All
In the Bible we can read about Jesus' close friend Lazarus and how Jesus raised him from the dead(John 11:38-44).During His ministry Jesus would visit Lazarus at his home where he would rest and be nourished before setting off on the next part of His journey. Over time a close friendship was forged between Jesus,Lazarus and his sisters Martha and Mary and Jesus clearly loved them(John11:5).Today we look at one particular visit Jesus made where Martha was busy preparing things while Mary sat at His feet just listening to Jesus and we learn that being busy doing “good things” can prevent us doing the “best thing” which is spending time with The Lord.

38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord's feet, listening to His word.40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me."41 But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
(Luke 10:38-42)
In the passage above we read how Martha welcomed Jesus on His arrival and became busy getting things ready whilst Mary chose to sit and listen to Jesus. This annoyed Martha as in her eyes she was being left to do all the preparation on her own. We can learn a valuable lesson from this story, which is that sometimes we need to stop being busy, lay things down and just spend time with Jesus. If we choose not to make time for Jesus we will miss out on so much of what He has for us.
Having a personal relationship with Jesus is vital when it comes to being “spiritually healthy”and when we make Jesus the centre of our lives we learn to focus on God's priorities and not on our own.
