The Daily Nugget- Pure Blessings

Hi All

One of the best known groups of teaching from Jesus came when He gave a message on the top of the “Mount of Beatitudes" a sermon which is known to us as the “sermon on the mount”(Matthew 5-7). Part of this message has become known as “the beatitudes”in which He explains being “blessed” in a spiritual “sense” as we can read in Matthew 5:3-11

3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5"Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

6"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

10"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11"Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

Our blessings from God are so much more than material possessions,as we are given divine favour, inner joy, peace and a closeness to God even in our most testing times.

Be Blessed and Encouraged

Pure Blessings

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”.

(Matthew 5:8)

3 Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place?   4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully.   5 He shall receive a blessing from the LORD And righteousness from the God of his salvation.6 This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face--even Jacob.

(Psalm 24:3-6)

In old testament times people would go up to Mount Zion in Jerusalem to try and get closer to God because it was considered to be His earthly dwelling place of His presence especially after the Ark of the Covenant was moved there and the Temple was built. To the people it symbolised a place of worship and a place to bring offerings to God,in other words it was the centre of spiritual life, which was described in Psalm 2:6 as God's “Holy Mountain”. Psalm 24:3 asks who can ascend that hill and “stand in His holy place?” The answer,“He who has clean hands and a pure heart” (24:4).That person “shall receive blessing from the Lord” (24:5).

In the sermon on the mount which we can read in Matthew 5-7 Jesus summed up these verses by saying“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”(Matthew 5:8). As believers, keeping a pure heart can be challenging as we need to make a daily decision to align our motives, desires and thoughts with the will of God and allow the Holy Spirit to continue to cleanse and guide our hearts. When we have a pure heart it leads to continual blessings in our lives.
