The Daily Nugget- Our Hearts
Hi All
Proverbs 4:23 tells us “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life”.As believers our hearts are our spiritual control centre and all our desires and thoughts stem from it. When our hearts are in line with God it stops us from drifting off the path God has set out for us and we can also experience “the peace of God which transcends all understanding”(Philippians 4:7).When you become a Christian, you experience a new heart that loves God, desires to obey Him, a heart which is pure and produces good fruit.
Be Blessed And Encouraged
Our Hearts
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
(Luke 6:45)
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”.
(Matthew 5:8)
The Bible is full of scriptures warning us to guard our hearts because asJesus said, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts” and much more (Mark 7:21-23). His words call remind us of the words of one of Israel’s greatest prophets, Jeremiah, who said that above all the human heart is deceitful “and desperately wicked”(17:9).
Solomon used a well of water as a metaphor for the human heart and advised guarding the heart as one would guard a precious well: “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23).Just as in a physical sense we depend on an abundance of pure water to survive, our spiritual life depends on a pure and clean heart. Above all we need to continue to seek a pure heart which we can only receive by the grace of God(Psalm51:10).
The 17th century puritan writer William Gurnal summed up the importance of having a clean heart when he said"Nothing is more contrary to a heavenly hope than an earthly heart". As David tells us “He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from the LORD And righteousness from the God of his salvation”(Psalm 24:4-5).
