The Daily Nugget- Honour Him

Hi All

As followers of The Lord we should always try to Honour Him in all we say and do,because He is our Creator, Lord, and King, deserving of all glory, honor, and praise. He has shown His mercy and truth, and we are called to live in a way that reflects His holiness and character. Honoring God also involves believing in and trusting Him, as doing so can lead to blessings and open doors in our lives. We can honour God in several ways including when we pray, when we worship Him, when we serve Him and there is nothing more pleasing to God than when His people honour Him, as scripture tells us, “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do,do all to the glory of God”.(1 Corinthians 10:31)

Be Blessed and Encouraged

Honour Him

5 Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.   6 Then Ezra blessed the LORD the great God. And all the people answered, "Amen, Amen!" while lifting up their hands; then they bowed low and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

(Nehemiah 8:5-6)

Many churches have a tradition of standing as a congregation when the Word of God is read during the Sunday worship service. This practice may be based on Nehemiah 8 The people standing for the Word of God signified two things. First, it was an act of honor. The people had returned to Jerusalem after seventy years of exile in Babylon, and they honored God by honoring His Word (verse 6). Second, it signified their willingness and readiness to shape their lives and practices around God’s will for them. Every time we read the word we should be eager to learn and absorb what it says,by doing so we show God that we want to honour and obey Him.

A great example of someone who honoured God was the Olympian Eric Liddel. At the 1924 Paris olympics his best event which was the 100 metres sprint had been scheduled for a Sunday. Despite pressure from those around him, he withdrew from the race because he didn't want to run on "The Lord's Day". He set his sights instead on the 400 metres, which was held on a Saturday. In the dressing room before the event the masseur handed him a folded paper. It contained the following scripture quotation  "Those who honour me I will Honour"(1 Samuel 2:30) . These words inspired Eric Liddel who not only won the race but also broke the world record!

God honours those who honour Him and put their trust in Him. Honouring ourselves is a thankless task and hoping to be honoured by others is prideful, but when we acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and seek to worship and glorify Him in all we say and do,He has a way of blessing us,using us,providing for us and establishing our reputation before others.
