The Daily Nugget- Bread Of Life

When Jesus called Himself the "bread of life" in John 6:35, He meant that He is the spiritual nourishment from God who satisfies our deepest spiritual hunger and gives eternal life.The statement recalls the story of God providing manna (bread from heaven) to the Israelites in the wilderness. While manna only provided temporary physical survival, Jesus is the true living bread that gives eternal life and the only one who can satisfy the spiritual needs of all believers,which He confirms to us in John 6:51 when He tells His followers “I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world”.

Bread Of Life

Give us this day our daily bread.

(Luke 11:3)

He has given food to those who fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever.

(Psalm 111:5)

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray(Luke 11:1) He instructed them by teaching them what has become known as The Lord’s Prayer and one instruction He gave them was to ask God to “Give us each day our daily bread”.

There is an obvious connection to made between Jesus instruction and God’s provision in the wilderness for the redeemed Hebrew slaves.

For almost forty years, God provided manna for the Israelites to eat so they would be sustained(Exodus 16). This provision was also a test of faith for the Israelites to trust in God's promise to provide as they were told to only gather enough for each day. Jesus also taught His disciples not to worry about tomorrow, but to trust God every day for daily bread (Matthew 6:25-34). He reminded them that worrying brings nothing but faith in God always brings His provision. Amen !
